Lent is not about you. It is not about what you are going to give up for Lenten penance or about what positive things you plan to do.
Lent is about you and Jesus! It is about conversion and salvation. Your focus especially during Lent is on your relationship (faith) with and in Jesus.
As a pilgrim of hope, Lent is the time to renew and strengthen your relationship (faith)with Jesus. Lent is a time of both conversion and repentance – time of turning away from self. Let Hope strengthen your Faith.
Lent is time for turning to love in and with Jesus. Love unites faith strengthened by hope. Love is reaching out to God and to neighbor as we understand in Salesian spirituality.
Lent is time to be aware of our failings (sin) and the chance to get closer to God in grace (life in God.) What will you do to convert and repent as factors in redemption? What will you give up? What will you do to show solidarity with God and neighbor?
Whatever you choose, consider quality over quantity. Choose one thing (something that you always confess in the sacrament of Penance over and over) which you never seem to master. Work on the one opposite (virtue) what will bring success. What one thing will you do to improve prayer, improve fasting, and improve charity?
Select one thing in each of these three traditional Lenten categories and pledge to concentrate on these for the forty days and nights of Lent. It is time to turn from self and back to more intense time with Jesus; time to turn from sin (bad habit) and back to virtue (good habit). Help each other.
